Frequently Asked Questions about VEP

Course Content

How was the content developed?
VEP was carefully crafted to meet the risk management education needs of design professionals. To ensure its relevance, Schinnerer and CNA developed the program in cooperation with the Risk Management Committee of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Professional Liability Committee of the Professional Engineers in Private Practice Division of the National Society of Professional Engineers(NSPE/PEPP).

Eligibility for Participation

Who is eligible to participate in VEP?
Participation in VEP is available, without charge, to all Schinnerer and CNA design professional policyholders.

Reference Number/ISN

How do I find my firm’s Reference Number/ISN (ISN) and why is it important?
Every firm is given an ISN by Schinnerer and CNA. This number gives you access to all VEP materials as well as our entire online library of risk management resources. Your firm’s ISN is available from your Agent/Broker or Account Representative, or use this link (Reference Number/ISN) to determine your firm's ISN online.

Mandatory Participation

Is participation in VEP mandatory?
Participation is not mandatory. This is intended as a voluntary education program. Each firm should decide if it wants to participate and at what level. However, individual firms may choose to make participation mandatory for certain staff.

Are firms penalized for not participating?
No, Schinnerer and CNA does not charge a surcharge or any other fees for failure to participate in the program. It is entirely voluntary.

Continuing Education Credits

Is VEP approved for continuing education credits?
Unlike previous editions, this version of the VEP is no longer an approved Continuing Education (CE) course administered by Schinnerer.

Insured firms that are currently CE providers have a license to take the VEP content and register the course as one of their own. This license is valid as long as the firm is insured in the Schinnerer and CNA program.

For individuals that depend on state regulations and professional society requirements for licensure, it may be possible to obtain credit through a "self-structured learning experience" using our VEP material. Please check with your state licensing board or applicable professional society for requirements.

Testing

Is there a test associated with VEP? How is it graded?
Twenty-question multiple-choice tests for each module can be downloaded through our site. Answers to test questions can be downloaded as a separate document and graded by the test taker or some other test coordinator designated by the firm. Schinnerer is no longer involved in any aspect of the testing, grading, or reporting of continuation education credits.
